A Rich Tradition of Blacksmithing

It all began in the early 1900's in Portland at a partnership known as Peterkin & Schoeder The Horseshoers. In the early 1920's, the original blacksmith shop was relocated to Molalla, OR and Peterkin & Sons was established. They were ready to offer the Molalla area everything from traditional blacksmith services to repairing cast iron pans and making gardening tools. Today, the business has evolved into what is known as JD Peterkin Co or “Peterkin’s” by the area locals and long-time customers.

The new business, along with a new home, was established in the center of the town where the family's welding shop still stands today. The original family home is only two blocks away and the family still resides there, thereby not just coming to work but coming to live.

 Jack Peterkin, of the family’s first generation, was a proud local fire department volunteer. Bill Peterkin, of the second generation, was a dedicated member of the local rodeo association for many years even helping them to create a new facility in 1976, using skills learned from his many years of blacksmithing. 

John Peterkin, of the 3rd family generation, didn’t end the tradition of being involved with the community and also volunteers his personal time to help organize the annual 4th of July celebration at the local rodeo. Jack Peterkin and Lisa (Peterkin) Banyard, now of the family's 4th generation, continue to carry on the long-standing tradition of strong community service by being involved with local events of all types.

With each generation, new ideas and talents were brought into JD Peterkin Co, but not before each son put in the necessary effort to move up. Each learned the iron working trade by watching and practicing with a stinger from an early age. As a result, our available services also expanded with each generation.
